Successful Separation of Egyptian Parasitic Twin ‘Mohammed Abdulrahman Jumaah’ After Complex Eight-Hour Surgery

Riyadh, May 07, 2025, SPA -- The Saudi medical and surgical team affiliated with the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program successfully separated the Egyptian parasitic twin, Mohammed Abdulrahman Jumaah, today at King Abdullah Specialized Children's Hospital in King Abdulaziz Medical City of the National Guard in Riyadh. The complex procedure lasted eight hours and was carried out in six carefully coordinated stages.
The operation involved 26 consultants, specialists, nurses, and technical staff from various disciplines, including anesthesia, neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, and other supporting specialties.
Advisor at the Royal Court and General Supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, who also headed the surgical team, stated that the parasitic twin was successfully separated from the child Mohammed as planned. He explained that the parasitic twin lacked essential vital components such as a heart and head and exhibited congenital deformities that could not support life or be medically corrected. These included underdeveloped kidneys, urinary and reproductive systems, and severe intestinal deficiencies. He noted that this information was known prior to the operation and had been thoroughly explained to the child’s parents.
Dr. Al Rabeeah emphasized that the operation was carried out under the generous directives of the Saudi leadership and marked the 63rd surgery performed under the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program. Since its inception in 1990, the program has provided care for 149 conjoined twins from 27 countries.
He expressed deep gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and to His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for their continued and generous support of the program. Dr. Al Rabeeah affirmed that such medical achievements underscore the Kingdom’s leading role on the global stage in charitable and humanitarian work.
The family of the twins expressed heartfelt thanks to the Saudi leadership for their care and compassion, praising the Kingdom’s humanitarian initiatives, its spirit of giving, and the warm hospitality they received since their arrival.
