KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- The Grand Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Sheikh Dr Ekrima Said Sabri, has commended Malaysians for their unity and steadfast stance in supporting the cause of Palestine and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Dr Ekrima, who is currently on a visit to Malaysia, said this was evident through the strong solidarity shown via various boycott movements, including economic boycott, which demonstrate the sincerity of Malaysians’ commitment.
"Malaysians are among the most loyal and steadfast Muslim communities in championing the Palestinian cause and the issue of Al-Aqsa Mosque."
"I extend my gratitude to everyone," he told Bernama in a statement sent via WhatsApp.
He also expressed his highest appreciation to the Malaysian government, praising its principled and positive stance in supporting Palestine, particularly its position in rejecting Israel’s occupation.
He stressed that the issue of Al-Aqsa Mosque is a collective responsibility, and not one that falls solely on the Palestinian people.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said Dr Ekrima’s visit to Malaysia was in response to an invitation to attend religious gatherings.
"Sheikh Dr Ekrima, the former Grand Mufti of Palestine, is not only a learned scholar but also a steadfast fighter in defending Palestinian land."
"May Allah protect Al-Aqsa, ease the suffering of our brethren, and grant them happiness," Na’im said in a Facebook post.
