Russian government extends space program until 2036 — PM

Mikhail Mishustin noted that the whole set of long-term initiatives for the national project is close to being finalized

MOSCOW, February 10. /TASS/. Originally set to run until 2030, Russia’s space exploration program has been extended through 2036, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.

"We will begin our operational meeting by talking about strengthening the technological and industrial sovereignty of our country. The government extended the implementation timeframe of the Space Activity state program by six years, until 2036. This will enable us to significantly expand the strategic planning timeline and boost the efficiency of our initiatives," Mishustin said.

He noted that the whole set of long-term initiatives for the national project is close to being finalized. This refers in particular to measures on peaceful exploration and space use. "It is critical to significantly enhance our scientific potential there," Mishustin stressed.

Another challenge will be to build all the necessary modern infrastructure and set up domestic industrial cooperation for large-scale serial production of promising machinery, the prime minister said. "We expect that the private sector will take a proactive part in this effort. Space technologies are known to be used in many related sectors," he added.
