Saudi Arabia Hosts 71st Session of International Satellite Search and Rescue Programme

Riyadh, October 15, 2024, SPA -- The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) is hosting today the 71st meeting of the International Satellite Search and Rescue Programme, which will continue until October 24.
The programme is headed by Henrik Smith; representatives from 45 countries and organizations, in addition to a number of government agencies such as the General Directorate of Border Guard, the Royal Saudi Air Force, the National Center for Security Operations, the Saudi Space Agency, and the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, take part in it.
By hosting the meeting, the Kingdom showcases its active role in the air transport sector and in satellite search and rescue. It was one of the first countries in the region to join the program.
The meeting will discuss several topics, including operational and technical reports related to space and ground sector and emergency locator devices.
It will also review the work report of the secretariat general of the programme for the year 2023, the work plan of the secretariat of the program for 2025, the report of the 38th meeting of the joint committee (JC-38), and taking appropriate decisions regarding the recommendations it features.
GACA will shed light on the Saudi Search and Rescue Center, which is operated by the Saudi Air Navigation Services Company, is one of the first centers in the region, and operates through the satellite system of the International Search and Rescue by Satellite Program (COSPAS-SARSAT).
The center provides distress signal notification services to a number of government agencies concerned with search and rescue. Its services extend to seven neighboring countries, in accordance with the regulations of the international program.
