World Champions Gear Up for Showdowns in Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters Quarterfinals

Riyadh, September 5, 2024, SPA -- Eight players successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters championship on Wednesday evening, following the conclusion of the Round of 16, which featured top players from the World Snooker Tour, including world champions and rising talents.
World No. 1 Judd Trump of England defeated his compatriot, world No. 9 Jack Lisowski, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals, where he will face 2010 world champion Neil Robertson of Australia, who also secured a 6-1 victory over England's Gary Wilson.
A fierce competition unfolded between 2005 world champion Shaun Murphy and fellow Englishman Elliot Slessor, with Murphy securing a 6-3 victory.
Murphy will now face China’s Xiao Guodong, who triumphed over Scotland’s Scott Donaldson after 11 frames in a tightly contested match that ended 6-5 in Xiao’s favour.
Moreover, seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, who is from England, delivered an exceptional performance against China's Zhang Anda. Although the Englishman initially trailed by three frames, he managed to level the score.
The match saw further tension as both players tied at 4-4 and 5-5, forcing a final frame. O'Sullivan showcased his vast experience by securing victory with a commanding 78-0 score in the decisive frame.
O'Sullivan will face China’s Si Jiahui, who edged past his compatriot Pang Junxu with a 6-5 victory.
Meanwhile, Welshman Mark Williams secured a convincing 6-2 win over England's Stuart Bingham, earning a spot in the next round, where he will meet fellow Englishman Jimmy Robertson, who made a major surprise by defeating reigning world champion Kyren Wilson.
The quarterfinals of the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters are set to begin on Thursday, at 2:00 PM.
