China, Russia to take active part in Korean Peninsula settlement - ministry

BEIJING, January 15. /TASS/. China and Russia will continue to play an active role in peaceful settlement in the Korean Peninsula as well as in maintaining regional stability in Asia Pacific, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang told a briefing on Wednesday commenting on the results of consultations held in Moscow between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Luo Zhaohui. "In the course of the consultations held, both sides expressed hope that maintaining conditions for dialogue and de-escalation in the [Korean] Peninsula meets interests [of all countries] and is something that the whole world aspires to. Both sides are calling on North Korea and the United States to follow the right path of dialogue and consultations, work with each other as well as actively look for a way out of the deadlock alleviating each other’s concerns," the diplomat stressed. He also added that China and Russia support better relations between North and South Koreas "and their work aimed at [developing] cooperation." "We will continue to play our active role in the political settlement process," Geng Shuang underlined. "The sides also exchanged opinions on regional and global developments including the ones in Asia Pacific. We reached agreements to strengthen coordination in Asia Pacific and continue to play constructive role in maintaining strategic regional stability and economic prosperity," he emphasized. Read more
