Military, police tighten security ahead of IORA Leaders Meeting

Jakarta, IORA - Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) tighten security around the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) ahead of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Summit’s Leaders Meeting which will be held on Tuesday (3/7). "Ahead of the IORA Summit 2017 which will be attended by several heads of state and governments, armed forces personnel and police secure the venue," said Navy Lt. Col. Edys Riyanto, commander of IORA Summit 2017 VVIP Security Task Force, in a press release received here on Monday (3/6). He stated the personnel also secure the entrance of Bung Karno stadium in the area of JCC, Jakarta. A number of fully armed combined military personnel and police including K-9 guard some checkpoints in the entrance gate of the venue. In addition, Edys said, security is also tightened at the Soekarno-Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma Jakarta airports as the arrival gateways and at heads of state and government hotel. He said a number of military and police personnel involved in the security of VVIP IORA summit consist of 12,000 personnel of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police. Some defense equipment deployed to support the summit security are among others Bell 412 helicopter, Anoa panzer, bomb disposal vehicle, warship, sea rider boat, Boeing 737- 400, C-130 Hercules VIP aircraft, C-295 aircraft, NA S-332 VIP helicopter, S-332 NA, SA-330, and EC-120B. IORA Summit to commemorate the 20th anniversary of IORA will be attended by 16 heads of state and government, eight international organizations, and representatives from seven countries dialogue partner. IORA summit takes place from 5 to 7 March 2017 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). The event was preceded by IORA Senior Officials Meeting on March 5 and is followed by Ministerial Meeting on March 6 and High-level Meeting on March 7. (Source: Antara/Translator: FLW)
