Shadegan Commercial Port Starts Operation
Abadan, Khuzestan Prov., Oct 28, IRNA – Shadegan commercial port officially started operation on Monday in a ceremony attended by governor general of Khuzestan Province and a number of provincial officials.
Omid Hajati, a deputy of governor general, said with the operation of Shadegan, parts of the activities of Bandar Imam (Imam Khomeini Port) will be directed towards this commercial port.
Hajati said there is a possibility that the commercial port will not have outstanding activity in the first month of its operation but this should not be translated into irregular presence of the officials of relevant organizations.
He said the commercial port has received credits for maintaining the equipment needed for patrolling, including the vessels, adding that in terms of security Shadegan Port has no problem.
Also speaking in the ceremony, General Manager of Ports and Maritime Department of Khuzestan Saadollah Abdollahi said for trade and commercial exchanges stationing of customs, quarantine and passport offices in Shadegan are essential.
Abdollahi further remarked that plans have been made for berthing of ships below 500 tons in Shadegan and the port has the capability of receiving ships round the clock.
Meanwhile, Khuzestan Governor General Abdolhossein Moqtadaei said serving the borders and borderlines should be based on economic prosperity so that people will live in such a safe envioronment that will not give priority to residing somewhere else.
He expressed confidence that Shadegan Port due to its location and condition will leave an outstanding effect on the regional development in the long run.
Stressing on the development of fisheries in the city, Moqtadaei said Shadegan is a commercial port and its activities should be managed in this direction.
He also pointed to a tourism project in the international Shadegan pond and said 2 thousand billion rials are needed to prepare the ground for tourism infrastructures there. /end
