Thai postal officials face overwhelming postal cards on Euro 2012 winner predictions
BANGKOK, June 30 (TNA) - With the Euro 2012 championship final is just around the corner, the Thailand Post has deployed more officials to help deal with an overwhelming number of postal cards sent by Thai soccer fans in their participation in a prediction contest for the Euro 2012 winner.
Similar to 2008, the Thailand Post has organized the prediction contest for the European championship winner and people have been invited to enter this year's contest by sending their postal cards detailing their predictions for the winning team in a bid to win valuable prizes.
Prapan Sritila, heads of Thailand Post, Region 5 office, said this year contest is more active than in 2008, with 12 million postal cards having been sold in nine upper northern provinces during the euro 2012 period, up by 20 per cent from four year ago.
Prasan revealed that Thailand Post has extended the deadline for Euro 2012 winner prediction until 9 pm tonight; while additional 100 postal officials have been deployed to help cope with the postal cards.
As the Euro 2012 soccer championship final match between Spain and Italy is scheduled to kick off tomorrow night, Thai soccer fans poured to their nearest postal offices earlier in the day to buy postal cards.
A chief of one of the 20 postal offices in northern Chiang Rai Province said his office has sold 650,000 postal cards from its quota of 660,000, with a large more number of them sold Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Thailand Post is scheduled to launch two sky lanterns this evening, one attached with Spain's national flag, while the other with Italy's national flag, to also predict the result of the Euro 2012 championship final. The one which fly higher is forecast to be the winning team. (TNA)
