A woman sobs at a tomb at a national cemetery honoring those killed in the 1980 Gwangju democracy uprising in the southern city on May 17, 2020, on the eve of its anniversary. People in Gwangju, 371 kilometers south of Seoul, rose up against the military rule of former general-turned-President Chun Doo-hwan. The uprising was quashed by a bloody government-led crackdown, which ended with hundreds of people dead or missing. (Yonhap)
