-UN has not lost patience on Cyprus for 48 years, says UN SG's Special Advisor on Cyprus

LEFKOSA (A.A) - December 1, 2011 - UN Secretary General's Special Advisor on Cyprus, Alexander Downer, said Thursday that the UN had not lost patience on Cyprus for 48 years. Speaking to reporters following a meeting between Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders on Thursday, Downer stressed that it was important to end the process in Cyprus successfully and they had not lost patience. The two leaders conducted talks on Thursday with a constructive spirit. They focused on the issues of 'Management and Share of Power' as well as foreign relations, Downer said. Asked if the UN lost patience on Cyprus, Downer said that the issue had nothing to do with patience or impatience. The issue has to do with ending the process successfully, Downer stressed. We are hoping that the negotiations continue in a constructive atmosphere and to hold the "Second Green Tree" meeting in New York between January 22 and 24, Downer underlined. The two Cypriot leaders will meet in Green Tree, close to New York, in the fifth trilateral meeting in January.
