Japan's Abe Urges Assad Govt to Resign

Doha, Aug. 28 (Jiji Press)--The government of Syrian President Bashar Assad should resign, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Wednesday. The Assad regime is entirely responsible for the current situation Syria as it has killed innocent civilians and failed to address the deteriorating human rights situation there, Abe said at a meeting here with Qatar's emir, Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. Abe said he is extremely concerned about the Syrian situation amid growing suspicion that many civilians have been killed by chemical weapons. He also said he strong hopes that the truth will be revealed through an investigation at an early time. Chemical weapons use is intolerable, Abe said, stressing that Japan intends to cooperate with the international community to help stop all violence in Syria immediately. Abe also called for the start of a political dialogue in Syria and support for Syrian refugees. END
