Democrats Oppose Legal Pardon For "Thaksin"
BANGKOK, November 23 (TNA) - Thailand's Democrat Party insisted Wednesday that the main opposition party opposes any move to seek legal pardon for convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, warning the Pheu Thai Party-led government not to include Thaksin's issues in national problems which are needed to be immediately resolved.
When reiterating the opposition party's stance, Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva vowed that his party will always maintain the country's legal system and legitimate norms, though realizing that attempts to assist Thaksin have been prepared through several options and will be carried on.
Abhisit, who is a former Thai premier, cautioned that linking the exiled ex-premier's issues with national problems will result in the government's losing or distancing its opportunities to move forward to immediately resolve people's problems.
The opposition leader suggested that the incumbent Thai government assign personnel who are reliable for their independent and impartial in opinions and decisions to work out a solution for Thaksin's issues instead. (TNA)
