Thailand to boost fragrant rice produce with reduced costs

BANGKOK, July 6 (TNA) - Thailand, the world's largest grains exporter, has carried on improving produce and quality of its globally-recognized "Hom Mali" or fragrant rice, including off-season output of the highly-demanded Thai rice strain. The Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives’ Rice Department on Thursday organized a seminar on the future of Thailand's off-season Hom Mali rice in the northeastern Surin Province, a best production source of the Thai Hom Mali rice, in which authorities concerned, experts and local farmers participated. The seminar was aimed at brainstorming ideas, sharing experiences and transferring technical knowhow among the participants to further boost produce and quality of Thailand's Hom Mali grains, particularly those harvested outside their annual cultivation period, with lower production costs. An exhibition on Thailand's off-season Hom Mali rice, at which participants enjoyed their tasting and learning about the off-season Thai fragrant rice production and produce, was also be part of the seminar.
