President Lauds Indonesia's Election As Non-Permanent Member Of UNSC
JAKARTA, June 10 (Antara) - President Joko Widodo lauded Indonesia's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC).
"Thank God, Indonesia was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council," he noted via his Twitter social media account on Friday evening.
Indonesia was elected as a non-permanent member of the UNSC for the Asia-Pacific regional group for the 2019-2020 period through voting at the UN General Assembly.
Indonesia won 144 votes through a closed-door election process at the UN General Assembly.
According to the president, Indonesia will continue to participate in building world order.
"We will build a world order based on freedom, eternal peace, and social justice," he stated on his Twitter account.
In addition to Indonesia, other countries elected as non-members of the UNSC were South Africa for the African region group, Dominican Republic for Latin America and the Caribbean; and Germany and Belgium for the region of Western Europe and other countries.
