CSTO countries to address terrorism, space weapons in UN General Assembly statements
DUSHANBE, September 15. /TASS/. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member-states plan to make a range of joint statements on space weapons and countering international terrorism at the 70th session of the UN General Assembly, a Russian diplomatic source has said.
"At the 70th session of the UN General Assembly, a number of joint statements are expected to be made on preventing the deployment of weapons in space, on measures countering international terrorism and other issues," a source in Russia’s Foreign Ministry said.
The platform of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) will be also used, he added.
The CSTO, established in 1992, is headquartered in Moscow and consists of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. In 2002, the six post-Soviet states agreed to create the CSTO as a military alliance.
The regular session of the UN General Assembly, the policy-making body of the United Nations, is scheduled to open at the UN Headquarters in New York on Tuesday. The general debate of the session will take place from September 28 - October 6.
