Bangkok Metropolitan University to promote sustainable urban development studies
BANGKOK, May 18 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) plans to open a new university, named Bangkok Metropolitan University, with its main objective of promoting sustainable urban development studies.
Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra announced the plan on Friday, during his ongoing trip to the United States, where he also visited the University of the District of Columbia, the first and the only public university in Washington DC.
M.R. Sukhumbhand acknowledged that he plans to apply the University of the District of Columbia's urbanization research roles to the Bangkok Metropolitan University, which will be opened in the coming years.
The visiting Bangkok governor met the management of the University of the District of Columbia in the US capital. Besides, he met students' representatives, who had earlier camped in Bangkok, and inspected the operation of the 160-year-old US university, which has actively promoted sustainable urban development.
The Bangkok governor acknowledged that the University of the District of Columbia is a good model for its research projects on urban development, including green area management, underground car parks which can also function as water sources and renewable energy. (TNA)
