Year 2024 Marks Bahrain-malaysia Relations' 50-year Milestone -- Embassy

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- The future prospects for Bahrain-Malaysia relations are bright as both countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties next year.

In a statement released on Monday to commemorate Malaysia's National Day on Aug 31, Bahrain’s Embassy in Kuala Lumpur said efforts are underway to elevate cooperation in politics, economy, education, culture, tourism and health.

Both nations are committed to strengthening trade relationships, activating existing agreements, and nurturing stronger people-to-people connections, said the embassy.

"On this special occasion of Malaysia's National Day, it is important to recognise the profound impact of Bahrain-Malaysia relations on the lives of the countries’ citizens.

"The economic cooperation between the two countries contributes to economic growth, job creation, and the diversification of industries. Cultural exchanges promote mutual understanding and appreciation, fostering a spirit of tolerance and harmony among peoples," the statement read.

The embassy said the strong bond between Bahrain and Malaysia serves as a testament to the power of friendship and collaboration.

Malaysia and Bahrain announced the establishment of diplomatic ties on Nov 25, 1974.

According to the embassy, bilateral relations reached a new height when King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa issued a decree in 2017 to establish Bahrain's diplomatic mission in Kuala Lumpur, which further cemented the commitment to strengthen ties between the two nations.

Economic cooperation has been a cornerstone of both countries' relations, with substantial growth in trade.

Malaysia exports a wide array of products to Bahrain, ranging from wood, furniture and electronics, to palm oil, while Bahrain exports aluminum products and oil-related items to Malaysia.

"Both countries have emerged as key players in the global Islamic banking sector, fostering close collaboration and mutual sharing of expertise," said the embassy.

It said Malaysian investments have contributed significantly to Bahrain’s infrastructure development, with Malaysian companies playing pivotal roles in major projects such as the Bahrain International Circuit, the Bahrain City Centre mall, and the expansion of the Sitra Causeway and Khalifa Port.

On cultural and people-to-people exchanges, the embassy noted that Malaysia has become a popular tourist destination for Bahraini travellers, who have been captivated by the country's rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality.

"Likewise, Bahraini students pursuing their education in Malaysia have fostered a deep appreciation for Malaysian culture and traditions while contributing to the academic landscape of both nations," it said.

The Bahraini community residing in Malaysia serves as a cultural bridge, promoting understanding and friendship between the two peoples, according to the embassy.
