USS Enterprise leaves Turkey
MARMARIS (A.A) Feb 11 - U.S. aircraft carrier USS Enterprise on Friday set off from the southwestern Turkish bay of Marmaris after a four-day stay on Turkish waters.
A 2.5 km wide perimeter of security pontoons, which was set up around supercarrier when it arrived on Tuesday, was removed as Turkish coastguard boats accompanied the carrier as it left the bay.
The world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier's visit to Marmaris gave a fresh blood of an estimated $3 million to the economy of the holiday resort during the low season.
USS Enterprise is the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. She is nicknamed the "Big E" and it measures 342 meters in length, as the longest naval vessel in the world.
Her 94,781 tons displacement ranks her as the 11th-heaviest supercarrier, after the 10 carriers of the Nimitz class of the U.S. navy.
