UK's CPL Aromas Opens Fragrance Production Facility In Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept  7 (Bernama) -- United Kingdom-based CPL Aromas, the world’s largest fragrance house, has officially opened its state-of-the-art production facility in Pulau Indah, Selangor in June 2023, with full-scale production slated by year-end.

Construction of the new production facility was completed in August 2022, followed by machinery, equipment and facilities installation, while trial production started in early June 2022, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and CPL Aromas said in a joint statement today.

With a land area of 20,000 sq m (4.94 acres) and a built-up area of about 10,500 sq m (113,021 sq ft), the facility has reserved land for future expansion.

CPL Aromas regional managing director Thomas Wan said the production facility is automated to enhance efficiency and transport safety as well as raw materials storage in the goods-in area.

Apart from the advanced production machinery, the facility is commissioned to protect the environment and reduce carbon footprints with features such as solar panels, cold-storage insulated walls and ceilings, rainwater harvesting system and wastewater treatment plant.

“All the ingredients used and the finished products are halal-compliant, with ongoing efforts to attain ISO9001 accreditation and halal certification, reinforcing the company’s unwavering commitment to exceptional quality and compliance,” he said.

Wan also highlighted that the production facility serves the Malaysian market while exporting to other Asean countries.

The planned workforce is about 50 people due to its high level of automation with the majority in the semi-skilled and skilled categories. Priority will be given to local talents and intensive training will be provided, the statement said.

MIDA’s deputy chief executive officer (promotion and investment facilitation) Sivasuriyamoorthy Sundara Raja said in his opening speech that the perfume plant embodies the spirit of knowledge-intensive manufacturing activities.

The fully automated plant symbolises innovation in the industry and showcases Malaysia's commitment to embrace cutting-edge technology to become a hub for technological advancement in the region. This aligns perfectly with Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030, Sivasuriyamoorthy said.

“We aim for Malaysia to be Asia’s lifestyle lab – a location for consumer care companies to churn ideas, design, and develop solutions for consumers in Asia and beyond,” he said.

CPL Aromas’ presence spans 18 international locations with a customer base extending to more than 100 countries. It takes immense pride in holding the prestigious Platinum award from EcoVadis, the world’s leading provider of business sustainability ratings.

This accolade firmly positions CPL Aromas in the top one per cent of companies within its category, emphasising its dedication to sustainable business practices.

The production facility reflects the company’s commitment to business sustainability, with substantial investment directed towards enhancing production, people and the planet, the statement said.
