-U.S. state assistant secretary urges "transparent laws" to draw more U.S. investments to Turkey

ISTANBUL (A.A) - A senior U.S. diplomat has called for "transparent laws" in Turkey for more business with U.S.-based companies.
"Turkey is a vibrant market and U.S. companies are seeking for more business in that market. But then again, there are certain setbacks in terms of business laws, which I believe should be overhauled with an eye to make them more transparent and more friendly in business start ups and shut downs, in intellectual property rights," Jose W. Fernandez, U.S. assistant secretary of state for economic, energy and business affairs, told an Istanbul meeting on Wednesday over Turkish-U.S. business and commerce relations.
Fernandez also urged Turkey for more incentives in sectors such as pharmaceutical, agriculture and biotechnology to draw more foreign investment in those areas.
"Turkey could draw investments worth 1 billion U.S. dollars in pharmaceutical and insurance sectors each," Fernandez said.
Fernandez said the U.S. was eager to talk with Turkey future deals in renewable energy, joint ventures, construction projects, adding that Turkish and U.S. construction firms could cooperate in infrastructure projects in Africa.
