ANKARA (A.A) - 11.03.2011 - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a condolence and speed recovery message to earthquake-hit Japan on Friday.
Sending a message to Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan, Erdogan said that Turkey shared the pain of Japanese people, and he offered condolences for relatives of earthquake victims and wished speed recovery for the country.
Erdogan added that Turkey was ready to extend every type of assistance to Japan.
A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 hit Japan's north-east coast today, killing hundreds of people. The quake's epicentre is thought to have been 20 km below the ocean off Miyagi prefecture. It shook buildings in the capital Tokyo, some 300 km away. The magnitude-8.9 offshore quake triggered a seven-meter tsunami and was followed for hours by more than 50 aftershocks, many of them more than magnitude 6.0.
