Turkish finmin says his country eyes to boost trade volume with the UAE
DUBAI (A.A) - 10.02.2011 - Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek on Thursday said his country aimed to increase trade volume with the United Arab Emirates to 10 billion U.S. dollars.
Speaking to reporters after participating in a meeting of the Turkey-UAE Joint Economic Committee in Dubai, Simsek said the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding to improve cooperation in trade and economy in areas such as transportation, agriculture and consumer protection.
Simsek said the committee meeting also expressed determination to increase the trade volume between the two countries to 10 billion U.S. dollars by 2015, adding both Turkey and the UAE were willing to take necessary steps to that end.
Simsek said they also agreed to speed up negotiations to pen a free trade agreement between Turkey and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
The Turkish finance minister was earlier received by UAE's Prime Minister and Vice-President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. Simsek also met with Economy Minister Sultan bin Saeed al-Mansuri and Nasser Ahmad Al Suwaidi, chairman of Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development.
