Turkish contractors undertake projects worth 178.3 bln USD abroad since 1972


ANKARA (A.A) - 18.02.2011 - Turkish contractors have undertaken projects worth 178.3 billion USD since 1972, Foreign Trade Undersecretariat said on Friday.
Turkish contractors have took part in 5,630 projects in 83 countries in the last 39 years.
Contractors undertook projects worth 1 billion USD in 2000, 2.4 billion USD in 2001, 2.4 billion USD in 2002, 4.1 billion USD in 2003, 10.6 billion USD in 2004, 11.2 billion USD in 2005, 20.4 billion USD in 2006, 24.5 billion USD in 2007, 23.7 billion USD in 2008, 21.5 billion USD in 2009 and 15.2 billion USD in 2010.
Turkish contractors mainly implemented projects in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, Middle East and Africa. The projects in CIS countries amounted to 77.7 billion USD, whereas contractors undertook projects worth 42.9 billion USD in Middle East and 37.6 billion USD in Africa.
In regard to countries, Turkish contractors implemented 18.5 percent of their projects in the Russian Federation and 14.8 percent in Libya. Turkmenistan with 11.1 percent, Kazakhstan with 7.3 percent, and Iraq with 5.2 percent followed Russian Federation and Libya.
