POLICE DETAIN FOUR IN CONNECTION WITH ERGENEKON CASE
Police in Istanbul detained four people Monday on the orders of a prosecutor investigating in the case over what is known as the Ergenekon, an alleged criminal network in Turkey with ties to bureaucracy and military. Weekly writer of the daily HURRIYET Soner Yalcin was among the four people detained for being a "member of the Ergenekon terrorist organization and for inciting hatred and enmity." Police searched a two-storey building used as the headquarters of an Internet site at "odatv.com" as well as houses of the detainees, the three of whom were reportedly the administrators of the Internet site.
COURT ARRESTS RET. GENERAL IN COUP PROBE
An Istanbul court on Monday arrested retired general Cetin Dogan, former commander of the First Army, under an investigation into alleged military coup plans back in 2003, came to be known as the "Sledgehammer Operation." 163 people including retired Gen. Ibrahim Firtina, former commander of the Air Forces, and retired Admiral Ozden Ornek, former commander of the Naval Forces, were also jailed earlier.

22 suspects were arrested and sent to prison on Monday over alleged coup plans known publicly as "Balyoz (Sledgehammer)". Retired 1st Army commander Cetin Dogan was also among them. Dogan said that all documents were unsound. Dogan said that they would submit a petition objecting to their arrest warrant to the 11th Criminal Court and if it was not accepted, they would not make their defense.

TURKISH PREMIER OFFERS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON EGYPT
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for an international conference on Egypt during a telephone conversation with U.S. President Barack Obama on February 12. "Functioning of a full democracy in Egypt must be secured in the shortest possible time," Erdogan quoted as telling Obama. Obama reportedly said in response "we should begin working for a such a conference. You are the most important figure in the region. I need your opinion. Your remarks will make a big contribution to Egypt," Obama reportedly told Erdogan.
PRIME SUSPECT IN COUP CASE BEHIND BARS
An Istanbul court arrested retired general Cetin Dogan, former commander of the First Army, in the Sledgehammer case. Cetin, the prime suspect in the probe on an alleged plot back in 2003 to overthrow the government, was sent to prison pending the court ruling. The court also arrested 13 military officers, six of them in active duty.
