Turkey fund board clears Qatar-based news channel's $40.5 million offer for state-seized Turkish TV station
ISTANBUL, Feb. 10 (A.A) - A higher board with Turkey's savings deposit insurance fund on Thursday approved Al Jazeera's offer to pay $40.5 million to buy a state-seized national TV station in Turkey.
The Qatar-based news network placed last Friday the $40.5 million offer for CINE 5, once owned by bankrupt media mogul, Erol Aksoy.
Al Jazeera's initial offer for the TV channel was $21 million in the first round of the tender which saw the Arabic network as the sole bidder.
Al Jazeera has said it would launch broadcast in Turkish in the first quarter of this year.
