Turkey to continue to extend financial assistance to Turkish Cypriots
ANKARA (A.A) - Turkey will continue to extend financial assistance to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.
Selcuk Unal's remarks came after anti-Turkey protests in TRNC and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's harsh reaction to those protests.
In response to protestors who demanded Turkey to stay away from Cyprus, Erdogan said Cyprus was Turkey's national cause, and Turkey would never give up that cause.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Unal said Turkey supported UN-sponsored reunification talks between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots in the island, and backed Turkish Cypriot stance in negotiations.
"At the same time, our assistance to Cyprus is underway as announced earlier. We will continue our assistance in the future," Unal told a press briefing.
