Turkey and New Zealand should lift visa requirements, Turkish labor minister says

WELLINGTON (A.A) Feb 10 - Turkish Labor and Social Security Minister Omer Dincer said Thursday that Turkey and New Zealand had to work together to facilitate investment conditions.
Minister Dincer attended a meeting of the Turkey-New Zealand Joint Economic Committee in Wellington.
Speaking at the meeting, Dincer thanked the delegations of the two countries for their contributions.
We want to develop relations with New Zealand. We must end visa requirements and do away with bureaucracy, Dincer said.
Turkey and New Zealand have excellent political relations and they have no problems in relations, Dincer noted.
Our economic relations have not developed as much as political ones. We need a new vision to boost our economic relations, Dincer stressed.
The visa requirements cause problems in developing commercial relations. This scenario makes it difficult for Turkish businesspeople to come to New Zealand, Dincer said.
Pointing out that the citizens of New Zealand can come to Turkey without need for visas, Dincer said that, in 2008, around 23,000 tourists from New Zealand visited Turkey.
We do not want visas from your businesspeople and we actually encourage them to come to Turkey, Dincer said.
We need to make the task of those willing to invest easier. We open our hands to you to lift the borders between our two countries, Dincer said.
Our trade volume with New Zealand is around 112 million USD. This trade volume could easily increase by three or four fold, Dincer underlined.
We have fertile agricultural land and you have productive agricultural enterprises. The cooperation between our two countries can present greater opportunities, Dincer also said.
The Co-chair of Turkey-New Zealand Joint Economic Committee and New Zealand's Minister of Trade Timothy John Groser said that certain ways had to be found to eliminate obstacles to further trade with Turkey.
Placing limits or "protectionist" approaches are history. We expect a strong signal from Turkey to develop bilateral relations, Groser said.
The two ministers later signed a memorandum of understanding to boost bilateral relations in various fields.
Dincer previously held talks with New Zealander Minister of Labor Kate Wilkinson, Minister of Senior Citizens John Carter and Minister of Immigration Jonathan Coleman and Speaker Lockwood Smith of the House of Representatives.
