Malaysian UUM Researchers Win Gold And Silver At WICC In Korea

ALOR SETAR (Kedah, Malaysia), Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Five researchers from public university Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) made Malaysia proud by winning gold and silver medals for their Islamic based creation in the World Invention Creativity Contest (WICC) 2016 held in Seoul, South Korea on Aug 2. The team of researchers from the Islamic Business School (IBS) was led by Prof Dr Abdullah Abd Ghani and Dr Mohd Shahril Ahmad Razimi while Dr Selamah Maamor, Dr Ahmad Bashir Abd Aziz and Dr Norazlina Abdul Wahab were awarded a gold medal for their 'IBA Easy Grow' product and silver for the 'MySpirituality Module'. Mohd Shahril said they were surprised by their win as their products were Islamic based, complicated and not easily accepted by Koreans. "IBA Easy Grow is a natural compost that is based on sharia, which involves the processing of compost in accordance with Islamic principles," he said in a statement here, Sunday. He said MySpirituality Module was an intangible product developed as a guide for youth, specifically to run spiritual development programmes. Mohd Shahril expressed joy for being able to introduce UUM, especially IBS and of Islam, to the eyes of the world through their participation in such a contest. "The contest enabled us to share our findings at a global level, while testing the marketability of the products created," he added. The contest held from July 26 to Aug 2 witnessed worldwide participation from 400 universities. -- BERNAMA
