HE Al Sada to QNA: Qatar Supports Arab Electricity Linkage Project

Cairo, December 22 (QNA) - HE Qatar's Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohamed Bin Saleh Al Sada has underlined his country's due keenness to support and further enhance the arab electricity linkage project and exchange expertise with the arab countries as related to diversifying the renewable energy sources and the optimal use of resources to generate electricity for achieving sustainable development in the arab region. HE Qatar's Minister of Energy and Industry who chaired his country's delegation to the 9th meeting of the Arab Electricity Ministerial Council said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) correspondent here on the margins of the said meeting which concluded here earlier today that the electricity linkage issue was the main topic of the 9th meeting of the Arab Electricity ministers' council where the council has stressed the need to remove all obstacles impeding such a project and revitalize the issue of the Arab Strategy to Upgrade Renewable Energy Uses 2010-2030/ and working out an executive plan to it to be later forwarded to the 3rd session of the Economic and Social arab Summit due to open in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2013. The State of Qatar will also take the necessary measures for launching a symposium on the environmentally- polluted emissions in power sector and which is to be held in Doha, Qatar on May 27-31, 2012 under the patronage of the arab league, HE al sada told QNA. HE Qatar's Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohamed Bin Saleh Al Sada also called upon the arab countries to take part in the doha exhibition on electrical equipment due to be staged on 2014 noting that the arab countries have welcomed such a step. It is to be noted that at the conclusion of its 9th session held in Arab League general secretariat headquarters here on Thursday during the period from 21-22 December 2011, the council endorsed in its closing resolutions the arab executive plan for the aforesaid Arab Strategy to Upgrade Renewable Energy Uses for the next two years after taking the note of the technical secretariat of the Arab Electricity Ministerial Council concerning the latest developments of the said strategy. The council also stressed the need to prepare for the second arab conference on horizons of power generation and water desalination by nuclear energy slated to be launched next year. (QNA)
