E-Governance Can Minimise Graft - Deputy IGP Of India

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- E-Governance plays a vital role in curbing low level corruption in India, said Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Bureau of Investigation India, Ashwani Kumar Chand. Ashwani, a master's student in Anti-Corruption Studies at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) said that the Indian government had introduced e-governance system to tackle low-level corruption, experienced by the common public in their day-to-day life. E-governance is the application of information and communication technology (ICT) for delivering government services. "It's aimed to reduce personal interaction of the public with government officials. Minimising such official and citizen interaction to a large extend will help in combating corruption," he said when asked to comment how the Indian government would reduce corruption level. "For instance, you can book tickets or apply permit through E-governance.. You don't need to meet officials, you can do payment via online... it will be more transparent," he told Bernama recently. Ashwani is among 29 students attending the Module VI: Corruption, Enforcement and the Public Sector, held at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) in Kuala Lumpur from Jan 11 to 22. --BERNAMA
