Turkey wins silver medal in figure skating

ERZURUM (A.A)- Turkey won Thursday a silver medal in figure skating at the 25th Winter Universiade Games in eastern province of Erzurum.
National athletes Alper Ucar and Alisa Agafonova brought Turkey the tournament's first medal with their performance in "Ice Dance" category in figure skating.
The Turkish team got a total score of 127.13 points with their performance.
Russia's Kristina Gorshkova and Vitali Butikov won the gold with a total score of 135.53 points while Ukraine's Nadezhda Frolenkova and Mikhail Kasalo won the bronze medal with a total score of 121.96 points in this category.
Speaking at a press conference after the competition, national figure skater Ucar said their success was a first in the history of the Republic, and therefore, it should not be underestimated.
Praising the support of the audience in Erzurum, Ucar said their success would continue, adding that they would work hard to qualify for next month's World Figure Skating Championships in Japan.
Ucar's partner Agafonova also said in her part that she was very happy to represent Turkey in the tournament.
Erzurum 2011 Winter Universiade Games will end on February 6.
