Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim officially enters FIFA presidency race

Zurich, Nov. 12 (BNA): President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has passed FIFA's electoral committee's check and is now eligible to enter the race for FIFA presidency. Four candidates were also admitted. They included Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan, former FIFA official Jerome Champagne of France, UEFA Secretary-General Gianni Infantino of Switzerland and South Africa's Tokyo Sexwale. "The integrity check included a review of corporate records, litigation cases, bankruptcy proceedings, potential regulatory actions taken against the candidate and a review of media reports concerning potential red flags (fraudulent behaviour, match manipulation, human rights violations, etc.)," said FIFA. Meanwhile, the candidature of the Liberian Football Association chief Musa Bility, and that of UEFA President Platini, who is suspended for 90 days pending a full Ethics Committee investigation, were not admitted. The election of the successor to Sepp Blatter, who is also under a 90-day suspension, takes place on February 26, 2016. W H Q
