Run for Young Herders Program held

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Run for the (Sustainable Fibre Alliance) SFA’s Young Herders Program was successfully held on May 5 in ten cities of five European countries by ‘Team Mongolia Runners Club’ of Mongolians living in Britain and the SFA.
A total of 63 Mongolian and British citizens took part in the run, which was organized at the initiatives of SFA project manager D.Tserenbat, and the runners could collect donation of GBP1700. Specifically, besides Mongolians, an owner at Hickory Dickory Designs Ltd Lisa Ebdon, who created a memorial medal, Dr. Ross Ebdon, and Chief Executive of Well’s Cathedral Bishop Palace Rosie Martin participated in the race. Members of Team Mongolia Runners Club and G-Studio MN supported the racing for donation. It will be traditionally organized every year.
SFA’s Young Herders Program aims at creating the network to bring Mongolian woolen and cashmere products at international market. In the frames of the program, teacher’s and student’s textbooks based on environmental and animals’ features and traditional nomadic herding practices were compiled at the initiatives of ‘Johnston of Elgin’ Scottish Company in partnership with Education Department in Khentii aimag. The textbooks started being taught as an alternate subject at schools in seven soums of the aimag. Developing its curriculum and involving it in the mandatory classes will raise Mongolia’s contribution to the world's sustainable development, the program team considers.
In addition, a run for fund-raising will be held at 9am, May 12, at Garden Park to raise Mongolians’ contribution to promote Young Herders Program.
