Qatari Wins Gold Medal in 1500M Event in World Junior Athletics Championship

Barcelona July 13 (QNA) -Qatar s golden champion Hamza Daryoush succeeded to bring Qatar a gold medal in the 1500m event during the present IAAF World Junior Athletics Championships held in Barcelona-Spain. Hamza recorded a landmark in the history of Qatar athletics beating all the world competitors and clocking 3:39:04. The second rank was occupied by Kenya s Sheryout clocking 3:40:39. Morocco s Abdulhadi won the bronze medal and was ranked third ending the race in 3:40:60 minutes. It is worth notice that this medal is the fifth gold medal in Qatar s junior athletics history, where the first medal was gained by Mubarek Al Nubi in the 400m hurdles event in Sydney in 1996, the second medal in the long jump in 2002 by Alwaleed Abdullah in Kingston, the third medal in 2004 in the 800m by Majid Saeed Sultan, and the fourth medal was claimed by the high jumper Muataz Iesa in Canada in 2012. Qatar also won already 4 silver and 4 bronze medals in the World Junior Championships. Among the other Qatari competitors in the present edition of the World Junior Championships is Jamal Abdulnasir (400m event) who had torn muscle and left the semi-finals, Ali Hassan Al Jassim in the 200m event who was ranked 7th clocking 21.80s. On Friday, Qatar s Hashim Salah will compete in the 3000m sc event and Ashraf Amjad in the hammer throw event. (QNA)
