Qatar U-17 Wins International Friendly Competition

Dubai, January 08 (QNA) - Qatar football U-17s team won the Dubai International Championship after defeating the UAE U-17 1-nil, in the match held Sunday in Abu Dhabi. Muath Yehia secured the win for Al Annabi with a well-taken goal on the 18th minute, bringing the UAE to their third consecutive defeat in the tournament. The win raised the U-17s points to nine in three matches. After the win, Qatar became the top of the mini-league, with Iran and Japan to fight-off for second place. Both Iran and Japan lost to Qatar 1-2 and 1-4 respectively. This is the U-17s' final tournament, before they are promoted to the U-20s team in the coming period. Head coach of the Qatar U-17 National team Spaniard Felix Sanchez will meanwhile turn his sights to the U-14 team. In order to aid the players' development to promote to the U-17 team. The U-14s first international footballing experience will be in Qatar on February 23, when they participate in the AFC Festival of Football. The Qatari delegation to the Dubai International Championship was headed by General Supervisor, Mr. Farag Al Marri.
