Qatar to Play Azerbaijan in Friendly at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium

Doha, May 26 (QNA) - Azerbaijan football team arrived in Doha today to play Qatari team in a friendly match at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium next Wednesday. In-form Qatar is ready for its second friendly inside a week's time, coach Fahad Thani said ahead of the home team's match against Azerbaijan on May 29. "We are not changing our plans for the friendly against Azerbaijan (on May 29). That will be the last game before we take on Iran (on June 4)," Fahad said on Sunday. Two days ago, Qatar crushed Latvia 3-1 in a friendly played at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. "The game against Latvia was satisfying on a number of accounts. It was a positive performance and we got what we were looking for," Fahad said. On June 4, Qatar host Iran in Doha before heading to Uzbekistan for the last Group A, Asian Zone, qualifying match on June 18. Also known as 'Al Anabi', Qatar are in fourth place in Group A, Asian Zone, qualifying phase behind Uzbekistan, Korea and Iran. Fahad said Qatar would trim the squad of 27 to 25 after the game against Iran. "From these two friendlies (the one played against Latvia and then one next week against Azerbaijan), I want to see how these players take to the field," he said. Fahad has planned a string of friendlies before and after the two 2014 FIFA World Cup matches to be played in June. Qatar has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals. "After the game against Azerbaijan, we will continue our camp until match day," Fahad said. (QNA)
