Qatar Olympic Committee Delegation to Participates in UNOC Meeting
Doha, June 14 (QNA) - A Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) delegation, under QOC Secretary-General HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdurrahman Al Thani, will take part in the meetings of the General Assembly of the Union of National Olympic Committees(UNOC), slated for Lausanne, Switzer during the period from 14 to 17 June.
The meeting will discuss the most important topics related to the development of global sport with the participation of 205 Olympic committees, as well as heads of 87 international sports federations. President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge along with Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad, head of the Union of National Olympic Committees will attended the meeting.
During the meeting the General Assembly will amend UNOC statute and adopt the purchase of a permanent headquarters of the union in Lausanne, identify UNOC's work and its relationship with IOC and international sports federations and adopt of the convening of the General Assembly annually instead of once every two years.
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahd will launch an initiative, through competitions for the best national Olympic committee, on the dissemination of the principles of love and peace within the community between young people through the Olympic culture. Meanwhile, the General Assembly will urge Olympic committees to take advantage of the Olympic Solidarity programmes to prepare athletes for the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Summer Games 2016 and Sochi Winter Games in 2014.
Prominent among the recommendations of the General Assembly, which are expected to be announced, will be the work with local authorities in each country to enact laws to criminalize illegal betting and those who sell, carry and use doping substances in sport. (QNA)
