Qatar Handball Team Qualify to Semis at Asian Youth Games

Nanjing, China, August 15 (QNA) - The Qatari handball team registered a 23-21 victory over Iran in their third match at the 2nd Asian Youth Games on Thursday. The victory brought the Qatari tally of points to 6 to lead group (A) and secure a place in the semifinals. Moreover, the Qatari football team suffered a 1-3 defeat against Thailand on Thursday. The Qatari footballers began their campaign at the Asian Games with a 1-4 defeat against china on Tuesday. On the other hand, the Qatari Flag was hoisted at Athletes Village on Thursday. The ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Games Organizing Committee and Eisa Ali Ghani, Head of Qatars Administrative Delegation. Earlier on Thursday, the Qatari Diving, Fencing and Tennis teams arrived in Nanjing, China to participate in the Games. According to organizers, the Opening Ceremony of the second Asian Youth Games will be staged August 16 at Nanjing Stadium. The ceremony comprising displays and programs reflecting the glorious history and culture of China. Just like the inaugural edition, the games will serve as a dress-rehearsal for the upcoming 2014 Summer Youth Olympics, which will also be held in the same city. (QNA)
