National athletics team collects 22 chromatic medals

Manama, Sept. 22 (BNA): Bahrain’s disabled athletics team returned from Doha after competing at the 52nd GCC Disabled Athletics Championship.
The Bahraini team collected 22 medals in total, including 4 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze at the end of the event, organized by the GCC Disabled Sports Organising Committee.
Bahrain finished fifth overall while Saudi Arabia came on top with 50 medals, including 25 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze. UAE were second with 34 medals - 17 gold, seven silver and 10 bronze.
Kuwait finished third with 37 medals - eight gold, 19 silver, 10 bronze while Qatar were fourth with 20 medals - seven gold, nine silver and four bronze. Oman finished at the bottom with four medals - two gold, one silver and one bronze.
Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar visited the team at the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation premises at Isa Town Sports City in Riffa to congratulate them on this achievement.
During his meeting with the athletes, Askar noted that the remarkable results underline the advanced level of performance this discipline in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and their ability to compete at a high level at regional and international championships.
The BOC general secretary conveyed the greetings and congratulations of His Majesty the King Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to the athletes and his best wishes for them.
Also present at the meeting were BOC acting Sports Affairs executive director Abduljalil Assad, BOC Sports Associations section head Hamad Al Baker, BDSF vice-president Jassim Al Sindi, board member Sabah Al Thawadi and national coach Adel Al Asfoor.
