Kuwait Wins Over Oman
Doha, December 14 (QNA) - Kuwait knocked Oman out of the 2011 Arab Games football tournament with a 2-0 win at Al Rayyan Sports Club on Wednesday to set up a Group B decider with Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Yousef Alsulaiman came off the bench with 17 minutes left to score twice for Kuwait, who had gone close numerous times in a one-sided contest.
The 21-year-old s first goal came in the 81st minute following a mix-up between Oman defender Nasser Al Shamli and goalkeeper Mahnad Al Zaabi, and in added time he calmly slotted home No. 2 after a lay-off from Eid Al Farsi.
Kuwait top Group B on four points with Saudi Arabia second on one point, so a draw would be enough to send Kuwait into the semifinals while the Saudis must win at the weekend.
Sudan and Jordan drew 0-0 in the other 17:30 kick-off at Al Gharafa Sports Club to leave both teams on four points at the top Group C, although Jordan lead on goal difference.
Jordan had the best scoring chances in the match but could not make the breakthrough. Both sides had men sent off for second bookings, Jordan s Ra'Ed Fraeh leaving the pitch in the 53rd minute and Sudan s El Taher Hassan following nine minutes from time.
In the 19:30 kick-off at Al Gharafa Sports Club, Libya took a 41st-minute lead over Palestine when Ihab Albusaifi's shot went in off a post. The Libyans had Ahmed Alwani sent off for a dangerous tackle in the 53rd minute and Palestine equalised with two minutes left, Imaad Zaatara heading home.
Qualification from Group C will go to the final games on Saturday, when Jordan and Sudan only need to draw against Libya and Palestine respectively to reach the semifinals. Libya and Palestine must win and overturn four-goal margins in goal difference against their opponents. (QNA)
