Fisu secretary defines Turkish athletes' village as spectacular

ERZURUM (A.A)- The secretary general of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) defined on Monday the athletes' village -- constructed in the Turkish eastern city of Erzurum for a winter universiade-- as spectacular.
Secretary General Eric Saintrond said Erzurum had a spectacular athletes' village and defined it as one of the best athletes' villages constructed so far.
Saintrond also defined the opening ceremony of the 25th Winter Universiade held on Friday as the best organized so far, and the rooms, restaurant and food were marvelous.
The Athletes' Village is located on the Campus of Erzurum Ataturk University. The Athletes' Village is 3km to the city center, 11km to the airport, and 1km to the Winter Universiade Arena. It consists of thee main sections: Mixed Zone (media area, delegation meeting halls, transportation terminal), International Zone (accreditation center, meeting rooms for the team captains and HODs) and Residential Zone (accommodation area, dining hall, sports hall, medical and massage rooms).
The secretary general said they first faced problems in transportation, however all the problems were overcome.
Saintrond said he was impressed with the highest-level participation in the universiade.
However, he said, more investments should be made to make Erzurum a venue of winter olympic games because the winter olympics required bigger facilities.
Saintrond said the jumping towers were perfect, most of facilities had been constructed, however they were not sufficient enough for winter olympic games. 
The secretary general said there were an incredible amount of audience in Erzurum, and 20,000 people watched the ski jumping races in the last two days.
Saintrond said he was also impressed with this much broadcast of the winter universiade on national TV channels.
The 25th Winter Universiade opened in Erzurum on January 27, and will close on February 6. Athletes are competing in Alpine skiing, biathlon, ice hockey, curling, ski jumping, cross-country, Nordic combined, snowboard, freestyle skiing, figure skating and short track.
Fifty-seven countries are participating in the 25th Winter Universiade.
