Doha to Host International Sport Security Conference
Doha, December 08 (QNA) - Doha will host the Second International Sport Security Conference on March 14 and 15 next year, the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) has announced.
Top security and sports officials will focus on 'Creating a Platform For Growth Through Safe Sporting Events'.
Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee General Secretary Hassan Al-Thawadi, Rio de Janeiro's Secretary for Public Safety Jose Mariano Beltrame and Interpol President Khoo Boon Hui are among the speakers at the two-day conference.
Al Thawadi will be participating in a panel discussion on 'Maximising the Legacy and the Economic Impact of Hosting a Secure Major Sporting Event'.
Beltrame, who is playing a key role in Rio de Janeiro's preparations to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016, will be joined by National Secretary for Public Security for Major Events Jose Ricardo Botelho for a session entitled 'Brazil in the Spotlight: Securing a World Cup and Olympic Games'.
With major sporting events attracting international audiences and the attention of millions of people, Khoo Boon Hui will explore 'The Imperative of Safety: Security, Terrorism Prevention and Optimal Information Sharing'.
Among the topics being explored at the two day event are, 'London 2012: Planning for a Secure Olympic and Paralympic Games' and Eastern Europe on the Rise: National Strategies to Accelerate Growth Through Hosting Major Sporting Events .
Al Thawadi said, "The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be a historic event for football and the Middle East. With it will come many opportunities and challenges, which I look forward to discussing with the world's leading security experts at the ICSS's 2nd International Sport Security Conference."
ICSS President Mohammed Hanzab said, "The conference provides an important platform for sharing information and exploring best practice, as well as addressing the most pressing issues in sport security today.
"We are thrilled that Al-Thawadi, Beltrame and Khoo Boon Hui will be sharing their thoughts at conference along with other leading figures from the world of sport."
The line-up for the 2nd Sport Security Conference also includes Former Commissioner of London s Metropolitan Police Lord John Stevens, Security Advisor to the International Olympic Committee Peter Ryan and ICSS Executive Director Helmut Spahn who is also the former Head of Security for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup.
