BOC General Assembly, 36th anniversary celebration set

Manama, May 19 (BNA): The Bahrain Olympic Committee today (Wednesday) will be holding its ordinary General Assembly at the InterContinental Regency Hotel in Manama. Starting at 7pm, this gathering will discuss latest changes on the BOC regulations as well as approving its financial and administrative reports and the strategic plan. The Bahrain Olympic Committee sent a circular to all national sports associations on the programme of today’s General Assembly, at the end of which the committee will celebrate its 36th anniversary (May 23, 1979). The celebration will be held under the auspices of Second Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and Honorary President of the committee Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa. The celebration programme begins with a word by the BOC. It will be followed by a presentation of a documentary film on the committee’s history and achievements. The event patron and attendees will then tour the photo gallery, which documents the 36-year-old march of the committee. A cake cutting ceremony will then take place on this occasion. In his statement, BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar said the General Secretariat of the committee has completed all necessary procedures to prepare for the General Assembly this year, and expressed pleasure for this special occasion, which marks the 36th anniversary of the BOC. Askar described the national sports federations as key partners in all the previously accomplished achievements over the past years, and wished for this partnership to continue in order to maintain these gains. The BOC general secretary also noted the quantum leap that sport has witnessed in Bahrain since 2009 when His Majesty the King Representative for Charity Works and Youth Centre and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa took over as president of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, leading it to unprecedented achievements and successes.
