BOC chief congratulates national marathon team

Manama, Feb. 15 (BNA): Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar congratulated Bahrain’s national cross-country marathon team on winning the first place overall at the recently concluded Arab Cross Country Championship in Tunisia. Junior and senior Athletes from nine Arab countries, namely Algeria, Tunisia (the host country), Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Djibouti, Sudan, Libya and United Arab Emirates competed in the 22nd edition of the championships. In his statement, Askar said the achievement is a clear evidence of the support the team has received from the sports leadership in the country, headed by the Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, and BOC president HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Askar noted the dominant show of the Bahraini athletes during the competition, which underlines their advanced level of performance. He expressed pride over this victory in one of the most popular sports in the world, and stressed the continued efforts of Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) president HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa to further boost athletics in the kingdom.
