Arab Games' Best Athlete will win US$75,000

Doha, December 20 (QNA) - The athlete selected as the best of the 2011 Arab Games will win a prize of US$ 75,000, it was announced at the Main Media Centre on Tuesday. Director of Media and Broadcast at the Arab Games Organising Committee, Abdullah Al Mullah, urged accredited media to vote for the star of the Games. He said the award would not only consider the number of medals won, but also "other standards, such as discipline and ethics." "Here in the Main Media Centre there are questionnaires and we would like your feedback on who is the best athlete, male or female," Al Mullah said. Voting forms are available at all venue media centres, but must be submitted in person to the Main Media Centre helpdesk by 12:00 on Thursday 22 December. At the same press conference, Al Mullah confirmed there had been 13 doping issues at the 2011 Arab Games. He said the plan was to have a press conference with the medical committee, who could provide further information. Al Mullah also gave details on the Closing Ceremony, which will take place after the football gold medal match, at Al Sadd Sports Club on Friday evening. "It will be a traditional ceremony, it will not be similar to the Opening Ceremony," said Al Mullah. "It will not be a big ceremony, but a classic, simple celebration."(QNA)
