Arab bowling championships begin

Manama, Sept. 6 (BNA): The Seventh Men’s and Third Women’s Arab Bowling Championships got underway at Ozone Bowling Centre in Sitra Complex. Nine countries from around the Arab region are taking part in this annual tournament, which continues until September 14. The championships were declared open by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, in the presence of Arab Bowling Association president Abdulsalam Hasan. Ahmed Abduljabbar and Majda Taher delivered the players oath, while Bahraini Ali Ma’aroof gave his oath on behalf of the judges. Askar then threw the first ball to officially inaugurate the event. The ceremony started with a minute of silence for the victims of 50 soldiers from Bahrain and the UAE who were killed in Yemen on Friday in the deadliest attack on Gulf Arab troops in the Saudi-led military campaign against Houthi forces. Also present were BOC board member Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Bahrain Bowling Association (BBA) honorary president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, BBA president Abdulla Al Dossary and Arab national bowling federations presidents. ---- Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC).
