Al-Attiya-Trained TM Fred Texas Wins Losail Cup

Doha, March 15 (QNA) - Mohammed Hamad Al Attiya trained TM Fred Texas (Burning Sand-Queen Kong) and ably ridden by jockey Marvin Suerland returned to top form with a fine win in the 1,200 meters Losail Cup for Pure Arabian Stakes in the feature event of Wednesday's programme at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club. TM Fred Texas had missed the Qatar International Trophy due to a setback suffered while on his journey from Houston to Qatar. The 'Horse of the Year' is immensely talented and the connections hope to run him in the Kahalya Classic later this month in Dubai. TM Fred Texas is the proud property of HE Sheikh Hamd bin Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani. Though making his first appearance on the race track after five months, TM Fred Texas tackled the 1,200 metres trip quite comfortably as he left the field for dead in the final furlong to win by a widening margin of five lengths. Jockey Suerland rounded off the day with a much deserved treble. Speaking to Gulf Times daily Assistant Trainer Hector said, "This was my dream to come to Qatar and win a race. I am really proud to train the winner for HE Sheikh Joaan. This was an amazing win for TM Fred Texas as he was running for the first time after five months and we are immensely pleased that he is back in form. He is likely to go to Dubai for the Kahalya Classic if invited to be a part of the big race on March 31." Jockey Suerland was elated with the treble as well as the opportunity to ride a top class horse like TM Fred Texas. "I was very lucky to get this ride and I am very proud to ride in the colours of HE Sheikh Joaan in Qatar. He is a very good horse but I was worried about the six furlong trip. In the end Fred Texas was up to the task on hand and won very well. Hope he gets the opportunity to take part in the race in Dubai." Jabor Nasser Al Ramzani saddled Trompettiste recorded an impressive win in the 1,200 metres Thoroughbred Maiden Plate. Jockey Arnaud Bouleau took Mallak on a start to finish mission but the Osama Al Dhafa trainee shortened her strides in the final furlong. Trompettiste (Suerland up) picked up tremendous speed in the closing stages of the race to win with a great deal of comfort. Indian Narjes came with a late dash to finish a notable third and may find a seven furlong or mile trip more suitable, the Gulf Times reported. Suerland recorded his second win of the day with a pillar to post victory astride Hassan Al Matwi's Jalmoud Al Jazeera in the local bred Pure Arabian Handicap for horses rated 35 to 60. The speedy son of Djelmador, Jalmoud Al Jazeera was taken to the front by Suerland and the Matwi trainee kept a vice like grip on the race to check in well clear of Al Yarmouk who chased without hope. Jassim Al Ghazali's Maricopa (Stephane Ladjadj astride) came up with a spirited run from behind to edge past his stable mate Protect in the dying moments of the race to win quite comfortably in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate. Maginot Line who set the pace, was a beaten horse well before the race came on the boil. L'Immortel came from way behind to finish third. Ladjadj and Ghazali had another winner for the day when Johny Hancocks staved off the spirited challenge of Walfa in the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 50 to 70. Alban de Mieulle trained Baaria was guided to a comfortable win by David Bouland in the local Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 0 to 50. After racing in a handy second position, Baaria steadily improved places in the straight and then swept away from the rest with a furlong out.
