Al Qahtani Reaffirms Qatar's Committement to Combat NCD

Geneva, January 18 (QNA) - Qatar's Minister of Public Health, HE Abdullah bin Khalid Al Qahtani on Wednesday reaffirmed Qatar's committement to the international efforts aimed at comabting the non-communicable disease (NCD) . Addressing the130th WHO session of the Executive Board, taking place in Geneva, Switzerland from 16 20 January 2012, the Secretary-General of Qatar's Supreme Health Council (SHC), who is also a member of the World Health Organization (WHO)'s executive board said the State of Qatar hosted in May 2009 a meeting on NCD for appropriate consideration by the UN Economic and Social Council during the 2009 Annual Ministerial Review. A number of key messages, recommendations and declaration were endorsed at the meeting, said HE Al Qahtani, refering in this context to the First Global Ministerial Conference on Healthy Lifestyles and. Noncommunicable Disease Control (Moscow, 28-29 April 2011). On the sidelines of the session, HE the Minister of Public Health has met here with Dr Margaret Chan, WHO Director-General. Talks during the meeting dealt with means of promoting bilateral cooperation and joint health projects between the State of Qatar and WHO. Dr Margaret Chan was re-appointed as the WHO's director-general while Dr. Ala Alwan was appointed as the new WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The WHO Executive Board is composed of 34 members technically qualified in the field of health. (QNA)
