Population of Kyrgyzstan grows by 1.5 mln people over 13 years

According to her, the resident population of Kyrgyzstan according to the results of the 2022 population census amounted to 6 million 936 thousand 156 people.

Alymkulova noted that 65% of the population lives in rural areas, 35% in urban areas.

“Over 13 years after the census in 2009, the population of the country increased by 1 million 573 thousand people or by 29.3%, including the urban population - by 31.8%, which is 581 thousand people and rural areas - by 28, 1% is 992.3 thousand people. The average annual population growth rate in Kyrgyzstan between the two censuses in 2009 and 2022 was 2%,” she said.

Also, according to the National Statistics Committee, the country maintains a high birth rate.

“On October 19, 2022, the population of Kyrgyzstan reached 7 million people. The 7 millionth citizen of the country was born 7 years after the birth of the 6 millionth citizen of Kyrgyzstan. The difference in age between the 6-millionth and 5-millionth inhabitant was 13 years, and between the 4-millionth and 5-millionth - 17 years. Kyrgyzstan as a whole is a sparsely populated country. The average density is 35 people per 1 sq. km. km," Alymkulova said.
